Roomy Pak was born in South Korea in 1932 and studied Chinese Calligraphy and Japanese Sumi-e, highly stylized forms of brush work, during her high school days in Tokyo, Japan.

Since coming to the United States in 1952, she received a B.A. degree from Huron College in South Dakota and studied art at Corcoran School of Fine Arts in Washington, D.C. and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

She has received numerous awards for her paintings including "Best-in-Show" by Julia Boyd, Virginia Museum, 1998 and "Best-in-Show" by Marilyn Zeitlin, Museum of Contemporary Arts, Houston, Texas, 1986.
