Like most young, black males, I grew up in the Boys & Girls Club.  (Basketball/Football of course).  I’ve always been into the latest music, analyzing lyrics like I was a writer for Def Jam!  But who doesn’t?  I graduated from DeMatha HS in 1998 and headed to my future (family) UMES.

Look at them luscious, long, brown butter stilts!!  Yeah, that’s what I noticed about Crystal at first.  She had sex appeal from day 1.  She doesn’t know it, but I smile every morning I get to wake up beside such natural beauty.

As easy as it would seem to most to write a personal statement, it’s quite difficult for me.  Why?  Because I didn’t know who I was or why I was here before Crystal, Mikayla & Courtney.  And now I proudly say I know who I am!

Thank you for your love and support!!

I guess I am laid back and stress free…. LMAO!! I’m sorry I couldn’t even keep a straight face. Everyone reading this should know me. I am so sarcastic some people don’t know when I am serious or not. But everyone knows how much I love my family. Everyone knows how hard I have worked in school and in my career to get to the place I am. I was raised by a single mother, who instilled in me hard-core values and taught me to treasure the present because tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone.

I was initially set to attend Hampton University; my mothers’ alma mater when one day I received a letter for a scholarship to University of Maryland Eastern Shore. I swear I don’t even remember applying to UMES. My heart was set on Hampton. My best friend was going to Hampton. I even went to pre-college at Hampton. I was set to go to my “home by the sea”. My mom told me the choice was mine. I would know people at Hampton and no one at UMES. I decided to take a leap of faith (all while trusting God) and enroll at UMES. God had a plan. His plan was for me to meet my future husband and father of my children.

Flash forward to present day. I have a wonderful family, a nice job, and I am going to marry the man that I love. We have so many plans for the future and getting married is just the beginning. I appreciate him for all he has done for me and I can’t wait to meet him at the end of the aisle and say “I Do”.

How We Met

We were both freshmen at University of Maryland Eastern Shore. We had a couple of classes together. One night there was a party in the dorm and he happened to ask for my number. I was seeing someone at the time, but gave him my number anyway. I didn't think it could hurt having friends. We left for winter break that next week, and we never talked. I saw him in passing during spring semester, and he gave me his number. Well, for about 2 months Rhody asked me as we passed each other going to class, "did you call me?" and I would say, "uh yea, but you weren't there". He would say, "Why didn't you leave a message?" and I would say, "I dont DO messages". I was lying! I never called him. So FINALLY, I called him, so he would leave me alone, and ever since then he hasn't had to worry about me calling, he KNOWS I will! :-)

The Proposal

New Years Eve we were set to go a party at a friend's house. While I was putting on my shoes, he knelt down next to me, and told me how much he loved me, and then pulled out a box with a BEAUTIFUL diamond ring. He asked me to marry him, and I said YES! YES! YESSSSSSS! LOL!! We went into the living room and said, "look what mommy got" and Mikayla said, "yay, you got a ring. I told daddy you said you wanted a ring for christmas!" We laughed, and I said, "do you know what it means for a man to give a woman a ring?" And Mikayla thought for a moment, and said, "it means they are going to get married" I smiled at her and shook my head yes, and Mikayla AND Courtney screamed!! They seemed more excited than Rhody and me.
